Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep….If I Should Die Before I Wake I Pray to My Reincarnated Soul a Vampire I Wake.

When shows like this, one that take their time and shuffle characters and pieces about as pawns on a board game, you often get lacks in your expectations. Not in a bad way but more in what small piece of evidence, revelation or clue shall we get this week. However, with only four episodes left, until the series finale, the pace has been upped and the stability of the characters challenged. In doing so this can and should affectionately be known as the episode where almost everyone went past that invisible line and straight over the edge.  Things long set in motion paid off and some fared better than others did among the betrayal, beading and deading that took pace.

In the spirit of gone too far I shall count down the best twists, revelations and bridge divers the episode afforded us. (in no particular order)

We Shall Call Him All The Names!

We Shall Call Him All The Names!

         1.       May I call You Dracula?

How about we call him Vlad Dracul, no wait is it Vlad Tepes!  No, that is not it either. I know its Vlad the Impaler, or how about just Vlad, can we call you Vlad? Well, whichever name it is they sure  seem to want to use them ALL this episode. It was if they we saving their Vlad bank up for a raining day and boy did it pour. Nevertheless, despite having a litany of names, and a small cadre of vampires prowling the streets, we did finally get the D word dropped. Lady Jane was also kind enough to lay down, in pedantic detail, how Drac came to be Drac. In what can only be described as masochist form of dumbassery it is revealed that Dracula was created by the order for betraying it. Yep, he was once a Dragon but did something so terrible that they turned him into the very thing that would kick all their asses. This is either thee most optimistic form of job security or the biggest case of shortsightedness by a pseudo religious group ever.  Either way the name is out or people are somewhat nervous.

2.       These Aren’t My Feelings, Are They?

Seriously people in this show have commitment and trust issue of the highest order. True, they are well being manipulated by outside forces but at some point you have to stop and say, “wait just a minute” and nobody seems to do that. Okay, we do have Mina who does manage to keep a level head but this has more to do with things happening around her and mostly not too her. Well, that was until Lord Davenport. We knew this guy was cooking up the revenge, targeted at Grayson through Mina (the thing he loves most), but damn acid on the face, that is pretty low. The day, a Mina’s wonderful lips, are saved through the prodigious exercise of dismemberment, Grayson style of course.  This saving only puts further strain on what was an already tense situation and slight fallout between Harker and Mina earlier. This came thanks to the subtle whispers of doubt by Lucy about Mina and Grayson’s relationship.  This also led to Lady Jane called it quits with Grayson citing Mina as the reason. For some the truth about Grayson’s affections is out and for the love of Mina’s wonderful lips it is about time.

3.       The Rise and Fall of Jonathan Harker

We saw it coming but darn if it wasn’t a bit painful to watch. Was as if witnessing a puppy innocently checking out a wood chipper prior to the switch being flipped. You knew, once hitched his wagon to Grayson’s star, that he was going to be royally screwed we just did get how much until now. Not only was he complicit in ruining the life of an innocent man but this time, thanks to Mina being attacked, winds up taking the life of another, Lord Davenport, and quite literally screwing up his relationship by beading Lucy after the act.  To say that Harker has hit bottom would be premature, if glimpses at next week’s episode are any indication he has farther to go, but witnessing the slow destruction of the innocent do-right to a philandering murderer was somewhat great to watch. How he can, if possible, to redeem himself to Mina remains to be seen but what relationship might never come back is that of Mina and Lucy. I was rooting for Lucy and loved the restrain way she had to deal with requited love but since her rebuff by Mina, which was a bit harsh, and lack of reconciliation her aims at revenge have made the character a bit petulant. While she does accomplish her “mission”, getting Harker to betray Mina, I wonder what she will get out of it besides and empty gratification and a lost friendship.

The Splendid:

-          Grayson ‘s bedside confession to Mina.

-          Grayson’s fit throwing and beat-down by Renfield.

The Terrible:

-          Does Grayson own any other suit? Enough with the big gray checks.

-          Lady Jane needs to take fighting and quipping lesson from Buffy for both are weak “time to die”, cringeworthy.

-          We get it she was your wife way back when, enough with the same flashbacks I’m getting dizzy.
